Junior Data Scientist - Transcriptomics & Omics Data Analysis

We’re looking for a motivated Junior Data Scientist to join our Data Science team. In this role, you’ll work with cutting-edge transcriptomics and other omics datasets, helping researchers and industry partners turn complex biological data into meaningful insights. Our team supports clients through tailor-made data analysis projects, from discussing project goals and interpreting results to delivering actionable biological insights. You'll gain hands-on experience analyzing single-cell and bulk RNA-seq data, interacting with clients, and contributing to the development of our analysis workflows and tools. Working closely with experienced scientists and data scientists across the organization, you'll have the opportunity to grow your technical, consulting, and communication skills while helping advance exciting research projects. You will report directly to the Head of Data Science.

Single Cell Discoveries is a fast-growing biotech start-up providing single-cell sequencing services to academic and industrial clients worldwide. With a team of around 50 colleagues, we offer cutting-edge single-cell, bulk, and spatial transcriptomics sequencing. In parallel, our R&D department develops new sequencing technologies and works on translating single-cell approaches toward clinical applications.

What you will do

• Analyze data from single-cell, spatial and bulk transcriptomics experiments. Occasionally also other omics datasets, such as proteomics.

• Work closely with our clients to understand their biological question and help them interpret the data we generate for them.

• Keep track of and manage your projects. Work with our sales team to scope out projects and advise clients on next steps

• Build products & workflows: You will help in building new workflows, tools, and pipelines for the development of new data analysis services.

• Research: You will (occasionally) work on internal R&D projects by supporting the data interpretation of new technologies and services our company develops. 

Your skills & background

• A MSc degree (or equivalent) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Biotechnology, or a related field.

• 1-3 years of experience with single-cell sequencing data science.

• Fluent in R or Python. Comfortable in a Linux environment. Experience with Nextflow is a plus.

• You are very familiar with Seurat, Bioconductor ScanPy or other single-cell analysis methods.

• Familiarity with containerization tools such as Docker is a plus.

• Experience with wet-lab experiments or experimental design is a plus.

• You have a flexible mindset and adapt quickly to changing environments.

• You perform well while managing different projects and tight deadlines.

• You master the English language (both orally and in writing) and can explain and communicate results efficiently.

• You are a team player and enjoy working with other scientists, both wet and dry lab.
